The Death of Michael Kelly

Soldier F shot Michael Kelly
He saw his bullet hit the mark
Michael’s friends they tried to save him
But he died in Abbey Park

In the confines of the Bogside
Where the streets are dark and mean
Sometimes life was claustrophobic
For a youth of seventeen.

Michael loved to watch his pigeons
As they tumbled in the air
From the yard he’d stand and watch them
And his heart with them would fly.

 Now he’s dying in Glenfadda
Just a boy of seventeen
Soon his soul will leave his body
And soar o’er this isle of green.
